This is a very good opportunity to learn how to serve the old people.  It will be interesting to see them competing in sports events.  Make every effort to join.

PLs – call your patrol members and inform them of this message tonight (18 Nov).    Call SPL, Asta on Wednesday (19 Nov) and inform her of the list of scouts joining the service.

Asta – Compile the list and let me know by Thursday.

Note:  No meeting in HKUGA College in the afternoon

Let’s serve, with gratitude, the old people who have contributed to Hong Kong and the whole at large.

The Scouts are requested to be at the Wong Chuk Hang Sports Stadium (the outdoor one) at 08.30 hrs. on 22nd November. They should wear sports kit or casual clothes and sports shoes. Drinking water will be supplied but only limited snacks. There is no secure storage space in the stadium so Scouts are not expected to bring bulky or expensive items of spare clothing and/or equipment; mp3’s etc,.

As many Scouts as possible are requested to attend the briefing by OPH staff at 08.30 hrs in the stadium. Their duties will include acting as time-keepers, event marshals, markers and stadium helpers. For the track events, only 11 Scouts will be needed to assist the elderly on the track. For the field events, only ten Scouts will be needed to assist the elderly competitors. All the rest of the Scouts will be needed to help the elderly folk not competing at the time; moving about and sitting in the spectator stands, going to the washrooms, making their way to and from events, etc,. The OPH staff are hoping that there will be 30 Scouts in the stands with the elderly folk but a few less will be alright, together with the Scout leaders.

The opening ceremony will take place at 09.15 hrs.

The competitiuons will begin at 09.45 hrs. There will be 100 elderly folk competing. The competitions comprise of six track events, followed by 3 field events, followed by four games or exercise events. A couple of the games/exercises include Tug o’ War and the Scouts can form teams for a game between themselves.

The am session will end at 12.30 hrs with a prize-giving ceremony. The competitors will then be bussed back to the OPH.

Scouts will be asked to assist the elderly folk to board the busses. Then they are free to go. Unfortunately no lunch boxes can be supplied to the Scouts.

At 14.00 hrs ten Scouts only (the staff would like the older, more mature Scouts for the pm session) are requested to be at the stadium. If they go at 13.00 hrs they will be given lunchboxes.

The afternoon events are for wheelchair-bound elderly folk.

The competitions are two track events and two field events, all in wheelchairs.

The pm session will end at 16.30 hrs with a prize-giving ceremony.
Service on 22 Nov 08
